WHAT IF A SHOPPING BASKET COULD BECOME A TOOL FOR TEACHING DECISION-MAKING?
For our primary learners, a visit to Namdhari’s Supermarket became much more than an outing. It became a practical learning environment where everyday choices were transformed into meaningful lessons.
Students explored how to compare alternatives, understand value, take responsibility for their choices and think critically before making a decision.
They also examined an important aspect of everyday life — choosing between healthier and less healthy options and understanding why those choices matter.
The experience nurtured:
• Financial awareness
• Responsible decision-making
• Critical thinking
• Evaluation and comparison
• Personal responsibility
• Healthy-choice awareness
• Confidence in everyday problem-solving
Experiential learning becomes powerful when children can connect a concept with a decision they might actually make in real life.
A price tag becomes a lesson in value.
A product choice becomes a lesson in responsibility.
A healthy option becomes a lesson in well-being.
And a simple decision becomes an opportunity to think about consequences.
At Aikya World School, we believe education should prepare children not only to answer questions, but to make thoughtful choices.
Because the ability to choose wisely is one of the most valuable lessons we can give a child.
